Windows update wont finish scanning my server...

Trying to get the UPS service working on my Win2k SP4 server, I had to
reapply the SP. Once I did that, I thought I should goto windows update
and see if any other patches should be reapplied. I get to the point of
it scanning my PC for updates...and after 3 hours now, its still
scanning. I have tried reinstalling IE and setting it all back to
default. I have uninstalled AV software to see if that was the issue
with no luck. Now I am just totally baffled. Can someone please help?
