I just reloaded Vista onto my computer and now that I have nearly everything
ready to image it so this process of clearing the extra junk toshiba provides
and reinstalling my programs is less painful if I need to through this again,
windows update quit.
I went through these steps:
1. reimaged hard drive with the Toshiba disk
2. Deleted the free trial programs and took the extra, seldom used stuff
off the startup list.
3. Ran Windows update to get Vista up to current offerings. It worked just
fine here.
4. Brought my files onto my computer that were backed up
5. Installed my programs.
6. Ran a complete defrag.
7. Ran windows update once more because I noticed another couple updates
were now available.
8. Opened windows update and changed the setting from look for OS updates
only to also look for updates for other microsoft programs.
9. Ran a check for updates. It found some large updates for Office 2003.
10. I clicked on the link to see what the updates are and it quit working.
Since this point, all I get when I open windows update is an empty windows
explorer box with the address bar stating System and Maintenance>Windows
Update. The working area of the window is white/empty. When the mouse is
hovered over it, I get both the arrow and hourglass and cannot close or
minimize the box. I've let it sit for hours and it doesn't gain anything and
the only way to close it is through the task manager. Everything else seems
to operate fine.
Any ideas?
