Hi! My wifes notebook has been working fine for over a year, with no problems
with the computer or in downloading Windows updates! She has XP Home w/
Service pack 2. Last week I went to run Windows Update and instead of the
screen with my update choices, a screen came up with the following
message.........."Thank you for your interest in the Windows Update Program,
You must have a Microsoft Operating System to run Windows
Update".........Wow! I must have a Mac! My first reaction was to check the
services that are dependant on Windows update to run. Background Intelligence
and Windows Update are in auto and started! Are there any other Services that
must be running...that may have been turned off? Microsoft wants me to go in
and do some serious editing of the registry...which I don't have the
experiancein, and think is crazy at this juncture!. Thanks, Bill

First, It is Norton, not Nortons.
Second, it has no effect on Windows update.

You make not like Norton products, but don't blame every problem you see on
it.

I agree that this symptom is probably due to your firewall.
(E.g. firewall interfering with User-Agent header in HTTP request.)
If you don't know how to make your firewall stop doing that
please make sure that you have at least the Windows firewall
enabled before going online with your Norton firewall disabled.
