Win2k, SP4, last install history was 11/10/05, set up to receive updates
automatically and install them at 1:00am
Everytime I try to run Windows Update on the web, I can either click on
Express or Custom, and the screen will stay on the "Checking for the latest
updates for your computer" page indefinitely. I've left it running before I
left work, came back the next morning and it's still going. Nothing seems to
be getting transfered over the web (from the LAN icon).
Tried installing a few updates manually, and seemed to work fine, but they
don't show on the Win Update History list (still showing back in Nov 05).
My AV program (Symantec-CE 10; managed client) also stopped checking in with
the parent server back in mid-Dec, and I am unable to get a clean uninstall
and install of it.
I feel that the instances may be related...
Another computer that has the same settings and which is on the same relay
as this one is working just fine.
Spysweeper had picked up a whole bunch of adware and one trojan a couple
days ago when I installed and ran a sweep. (Spysweeper no longer installed
as I had to uninstall to see if that would help the AV program install any.)
Any ideas what's going on here? Do I have to reinstall Win2k? Is there way
to just repair Win2k?
