Windows Update won't work!! PLEASE HELP!!

I keep on trying to update through the Windows Update site, but I keep
getting an error message with a small red "X" and it says: "Files required to
use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To
continue: Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)" OR it
suggests to "Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the
problem"

When I choose either one, I always end up back to the error again. If I
choose to download the files to register or reinstall the files, it does so,
but when I shut down and start up again, I have to do the same thing over and
over again, so it doesn't work.

I think the Windows Update program has been corrupted somehow on my computer.

Can anyone help me reinstall the Windows Update program itself?

Go to Start, select Run, and type:
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER

Go to WU again from a fresh IE window and try it again.
