Windows update works, Office update does not

Windows update works (WinXP Home SP1+last update) whereas Office 2003 does
not. It states that there is a problem with Windows Installer. I tried to
cleanup installation and reinstall, but it does not work. Any help
appreciated.

I still have the problem. Is there a way to know WHERE Office Update Applet
find a problem?

This is interesting, but it looks like no log is created by the applet that
is analysing my system thru the Office Update service. I just get

Errore. Impossibile eseguire il controllo degli aggiornamenti in questo
computer.

(translation: Error: Impossible to perform the check of updates in this
computer)

So, the problem is that there is no error number. Ofdfice Update progress
bar moves up to 68% and then I get the message. Is there any tool that do a
similar control BUT let me know where it stops and why? It would help me to
fix the problem if it is just a matter of a corrupted msi file or registry
key.

I haven't come across this problem before, perhaps you could contact MS regarding the problem and
post any feedback that may assist others.
