Windows Update WU client failed installing updates with error 0x80

Whenever I try to use Windows Update the installation fails with the error
0x802400. The updates download ok, but always fail at the installation stage.
The machine is running Windows XP with service pack 2 installed.

Is anyone else having this problem or found a solution to this problem!?

Dave, there should be a couple more digits in the error code. Can you reply
with those please?
