Windows Update (XP) Error code 0x80070003

Every time i try to go to windows update, to download security patches etc
its scans, then shows me a selection, so i press select all,/ download & it
open a little grey window say downloading then instantly fails, i then get a
message saying " Updates were not successfullu installed" Doh!, when i check
the history its shows me this code 0x80070003 on every update ive tried.

I looked on the Tech site and found plenty of unrelated things.
tried it with firewall on & off, different modems & no happy happy joy joy.
its been like this for about 4 months or so and its getting to be a little
pain searching for the updates one by one.

appreciated it if someone can help

Well with alot of reading & a litte work, i think ive sorted it,

on a previous post, seems to reset Windows update so it`ll allow it to
atleast download new service patches etc.

so for all those reading this today about the 0x80070003 & 0x800**54 errors
it's this simple.
