Windows Update XP wity SP2

From Task Manager the update.exe and system are taking up 100% of the cpu.
When I try to upgrade to SP2 I get an error. My prior attempt to upgrade to
the SP2 was unsuccessful and I stopped the download befors completing. But,
now I can't seem to get it going again.

How do I clean up the system in order to get a new SP2 downnload? and,
How do I stop updated.exe and sytems from taking 100% of the cpu? (the
end-process did not work)

Turn off Automatic Update:
Right click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Automatic Update tab.
Check "Turn off Automatic..."
Click OK
