Windows Updater downloading but not installing updates.

My windows updater will download the updates but I cannot get them to
install. The updater wizard screen comes on and I click next to install and I
then get the agree/disagree page and I click agree and most times the
complete Updater Wizard box disappears. A few times I have gotten a chance to
click on I agree and then the next screen comes up saying "backing up files"
then it disappears. Anyone know why it is doing this?
