Windows updates and disc drives.

I recently installed one of the latest windows updates only to find out that
my disc drive had all but stopped working. Upon restoring to a point before
the update was installed my disc drive worked perfectly. Then the overnight
came and the updates installed themselves again and somehow erased the point
I could go back to before said updates.

Am I the only one with this problem or have others been as 'fortunate' as I?

The system is experiencing a filters issue. This KB article covers both
Vista/XP as you've failed to mention which edition of Windows and which
update[s] are/were installed:

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or
other programs
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

IF a Security update caused the issue, then you can get no-charge
support for getting this sorted out:

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista x64 SP2) when
posting to this newsgroup.

What update did you install?

Never, EVER use System Restore to "undo" an update without first
uninstalling the update itself!

I too am having the same problem it sounds like. Example is that my photos
were copied onto disk and have worked perfectly. The windows update went
into play and now it is as if I no longer have a disk drive. It will not
recogonize ANY cd disk put in. I have windows vista. Any solutions
found????
