I have a Dell XPS laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and today while my
wife was using it Vista restarted and when it came back up it started running
update 3 of 3. Well it never gets beyond 0% complete then it shuts down
Windows and restarts the computer starting the whole process over again.

I tried booting with last known good but get the same result; then I tried
Safe mode same result. I then started in boot logging mode to get the
ntbtlog.txt file so I could then boot in command prompt mode and take a look
at the file. Well it just start into the configuring update then it restarts
and never gives me a chance to get to the command prompt.

I am currently on hold with Dell support (about an hour now) and have no
idea how to fix the problem other then doing a repair. Does anyone have any
insight into how to get around this issue?

I am replying to my own post:
I finally got through to Dell support and they had me do a system restore to
the last system checkpoint that just happend to be 2/12/2008 (before the
updates). So far this appears to have worked. However; I was not able to
get auto update turned off before the updates started again. So here I am
waiting for it to come back up and right now it is Configuring updates.

Before it started I got a list of updates that had been installed and found
that KB937287 had failed on 2/15/2008. I would say this was the one that got
me.

Well the system is back up now and I have logged in and everything look good.

Another update form myself:

In post "Keeps reinstalling same security update" Melkesideck said to turn
off virus protection then try to install KB937287 and it should work; it did!

A BIG thanks to Melkesideck
