I am a user of WinXP SP2 who is having problems with 3 program icons not
showing up in the tray, even though Task Manager shows these three programs
are running, after doing the latest WinXP security updates that I did on
04/15/07. I thought maybe I would uninstall those updates but there are "NO"
updates of any kiind that that show up in the "Add or Remove Programs."

I reinstalled those three programs thinking maybe that would help but to no
avail. Actually it seems like a couple of these icons are fickle about
showing up because after a fresh boot up a couple of times maybe one or two
of these icons would show up... For example one of the programs is SnagIt8
which I use very frequently so I need to be able to click on it's tray icon
but it's icon never shows up since this recent security upgrading.

I get so discouraged after doing updates because it seems after ever update
there are problems that arise that I have to deal with...

Can anyone offer some suggestions of help for my current problems???

Thanks.

Jim

Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> Ensure the 'Show Updates'
checkbox *is* checked --> Scroll down the list to the "Windows XP Software
Updates" section...

As for the three other applications - look at their help/preferences and/or
contact the manufacturer of said applications.

Thanks for your help.

I guess I am not too swift in that I didn't notice the box to check up at
the top to "show updates."...haha...

Thanks so much for pointing in the right direction because now I will leave
that box unchecked on my desktop (It was my laptop where I didn't see all of
the updates) because there are so many updates in the +add or remove
programs."

I want to Save Space and delete unnecessary files after installing a
Windows Update patch or Service Pack.
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spack.htm

The above will show you how to remove the uninstall files and entries in
Add/Remove Programs but still retain the updated files and registry
entries from the updates.
This way the system is protected, the uninstall files are deleted, and
the entries that you find annoying in Add/Remove Programs are gone.
Win, win, win <w>
