I'm having trouuble with windows updates, the following updates are
downloading, and appear to install correctly, but when the computer reboots
the show as failing to install and windows update prompts me to install them
again. Thew failing updates are:
kb 942615
kb941644
kb943078
kb943411
kb941229
kb941649
kb 943899

The update history gives me the following reason for failure, error 80071a91

I've tried installing them manually, as well as disabling my AV and firewall
but that has not helped

I am running Vista Home Premium

can you please help me with this issue

Not running any 3rd party firewalls, running Symanted antivirus and pest patrol

1. After making certain you have a copy of your Product Key, uninstall all
Norton software via Add/Remove Programs.

2. Enable the Windows Firewall.

3. Run this removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039

4. Immediately install the 30-day free trial version of, e.g., NOD32* or
KAV7**

5. Manually update your new anti-virus application then run a full system
scan.

Do your problems persist now?

[Don't forget to subscribe to your new AV app or uninstall it then reinstall
the Norton application before the free-trial period expires! Should you
decide to reinstall the Norton application, I recommend not installing any
Norton Add-ons for a while.]

Then I recommend that you...

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB123456).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

<repost date="July 14, 2007">

<cmd_output OS="XPsp2">
F:\>set /a c = 0x1a91
6801
F:\>net helpmsg %c%

The system cannot find message text for message number 0x1a91 in the message file for NETMSG.
</cmd_output>

Perhaps your OS gives a different result for that net helpmsg 6801 command?

Oh. Here you go:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms681389.aspx

(Microsoft search for
6801 intitle:codes
)

<quote>
ERROR_RM_NOT_ACTIVE
6801 Transaction support within the specified file system resource manager is not started or was shutdown due to an error.
</quote>

Looks like you will have to search the logs for that 6801 code
to find out what "the specified file system resource manager" is. <eg>

Good luck
