Basically I had to re-format my laptop back to factory default settings, and
when I loaded VISTA it told me it needed to download windows updates so I let
it do that and then it said "you must now restart your computer for the
changes to take effect" so I let it do that and before it even loads the page
where i can log onto my computer account a blue screen appears and then it
restarts the computer again and it tells me

Windows failed to load please instert the windows vista disk to repair windows

so i put in the windows vista cd and pressed f12 and then selected "repair"
and then it says "system restore" and then it backdates the computer and then
it loads fine but then when i log back on it automatically starts to download
windows updates again AND I HAVE TO PUT THE STUPID CD IN ALL OVER AGAIN
its so annoying and time consuming PLEASE HELP!

Disconnect from the internet, do the repair.

Whilst you are investigating the cause of the problem - re-configure auto updates not to
auto download etc

In case it's related to SP1 - The update is not installed successfully, you receive a
message, and the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista
