windows updates fails: error 0x8007000

I have upgraded my WSUS server to version 3.0.6000.374.
I was able to update the systems using the WSUS 3.0 server several times.

Now, on my x64 client systems I am getting the error:

EEHndlr WARNING: Failed to populate ServiceStartup entries in Cache: error
0x80070002

in the clients %SystemRoot%\WindowsUpdate.log.

I try to force updates using wuauclt.exe /detectnow and /resetauthorization

The WSUS server knows about the client and knows that it needs updates, but
I the clients are always getting the 0x80070002.

I have tried reinstalling the windows update program on the clients.
I have tried removing the %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\SoftwareDistribution
\DataStor directory.

I have tried removing the %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStor
directory.

I have looked that the registry entries.

I have tried:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...cleid=30&ln=en

I have searched the MSDN site.

Any body have a idea?

I see that this error occurs over and over again. Whats up with that?

My systems are dead in water. I need to get this to work.

Three things about the KB artile.

It is for XP client, in a domain, with a missing reg entry. (Also you need
to supply the DNS FQN)

The machines I am have problems with are part of a Workgroup, the WSUS is in
the domain. This setup worked for 2 year with WSUS 2.0.

This is machine is a x64 Windows 2003 server, not XP.

And the third thing is that the reg entry:

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Service s\Tcpip\Parameters\Domain

existed. I did add the FQN to the DNS page.

Thanks for trying. Any other ideas? I am still dead in the water.
