Windows Updates, what's the point?

I just went to update one of the machines for a small company. All
of the needed patches have come available recently or over the past
month or so.

Every single one of the seven updates has "several" users reporting
problems since installing the particular updates. Some crashing the
machines or critical software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

What am I supposed to do? This is getting rediculous Microsoft.

Am I supposed to install these updates, and keep my fingers crossed
that I didn't goof someone's machine up, which could cause hours of
wasted time per machine and mad users?

I think i'll wait until these problems have been cleared up.

Perhaps the following will explain & resolve your issue:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell
after you install Security Update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

Easy Fix: Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Item No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software - Fix (MS06-015)"
to download a simple registry fix.
[Direct Patch Download: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/hp.vbs]

Note: You may need to temporarily disable your antivirus program
in order to safely run the scripted fix.

Easy fix, perhaps, but not for all the problems that this update
spawned. HP Multimedia keyboard settings can no longer be specified
after installing this update. I've tried the fixes mentioned to date
without success.

Have you uninstalled it and installed version2?

Yes, with no success. Uninstalling update allows me to change keyboard
assignments, but reinstalling update removes the Buttons tab again. This
isn't a major problem as changing keyboard assignments isn't a task that
I have to perform very often. HP tech advises that HP is aware of
problem and will eventually provide a fix.

Nate, I am the same way, I haven't downloaded an update in a while. They
really need to test these things for a while before they put them on the
update site. I just read on PC World's Steve Bass that he had a lot of
trouble with update 908531. Microsoft has realized the problem and is
supposed to issue a fix. I am seeing that nearly every update is having some
kind of problem. The best thing for sure is have auto updates cut off. I just
go to the site and see what they have and usually do nothing. I really don't
know if any of them are safe. I had thought about maybe downloading just one
and writing down the number of it and just wait a while and see what it does,
and if it doesn't work then remove it from add remove. I removed sp 2 twice
within a years time before I decided that it was working ok. There is nothing
more awful than a computer acting up.
