I had no problem performing Windows Updates. But tonight, I got the
following error and message. I had checked the BITS service. I ran in the
automatic mode. In short, it seems not having problem. Any troubleshooting
tips are appreciated.

"Windows Update cannot continue because a required service application is
disabled. Windows Update requires the following services:
Automatic Updates enables detection, downloading, and installation of
critical updates for your computer. Background Intelligent Transfer Service
(BITS) enables faster, restartable downloading of updates. Event Log logs
Windows Update events for troubleshooting. To ensure that these services are
enabled: ..."

Thanks,

I have a new question for you, I hope you can help me. I am so frustrated
and am not able to use my Lexmark x73...............I have Windows XP and
cannot seem to connect my printer to my computer. I HAD it attached to it at
one time and something has happened and now I cannot 'perform this action'
when I try to install the fax/scanner/copier/printer...............can you
help me out? I have the disks to install it, when I try to do this I get a
blue screen and there seems to be an error on the LXAR.exe or something like
that, which seems to be Lexmark. Let me know if you can help me or if you
need more info. Thank you in advance.

I have a Lexmark also and had trouble reinstalling the software after it got
messed up...here is what I had wrong...I have several spywares that clean my
system daily. Spyware removes a required file that is needed for installing
software. The file is "autoexec.nt", it needs to be located in the System32
directory. It is only a 2k file. I now locate that file in a couple of
places so I can replace it if it gets removed again. You can find the file
on any other XP computer, or you may find it on the net. This file will
probably get rid of your blue screen also.

Mike, once you have that file where it belongs, right-click it and select
Properties then mark it as Read Only. That should help to keep it where it
belongs in the future.
