windows updatesays installed but keeps coming back up

I run win 98 se. I have run win update several times and it keeps telling me
the newest direct x should be updated.
my history of updates showes this to have been done at least 3 times,
succesfully. !
why is it showing the updates to be installed correctly in history but it
doesn't see it as installed ?
My Direct X diag says i have - 9.0b installed- should be 9.0c.if update took !

I believe that 9.b is for 98. 9.c is not

hi. try this there is a little program call Happy Direct X uninstall 3.1

use thisa to completely uninstall direct x once this is done download direct
x and install direct x 9.oc this should be the only installed version and you
should get no conflict with the system information.
