I recently traded in my HP Pavilion a510n which had the home edition XP to a
Gateway 32 bit machine which runs Windows Home edition of Vista Premium.

With XP, The Pavillion is eqipped with a data fax modem and fax software which
allows you to send and receive faxes in TIFF format.

With Vista Premium, this is not the case. You get a data fax modem, however
in order to get the fax software, I was told that you had to upgrade to Vista
Ultimate, or Vista Business for a price of over $250.00+.

Gateway informed me of this and so did Circus City with their disadvantage
Plan.

For $250+ 00 you can go to Staples, Walmart or office Depot and pick up a
injet combo four in one (printer, scanner, fax, and copier) for about the
same price
of the upgrade.

Is Microsoft really that smart, if you are really that stupid? LOL

you can get a printer with a fax for a lot less than 250. I don't thing that
MS is stupid
I just think they think that faxing from computers is not as important as it
once was.

You might consider Snappy Fax at a slight cost:
http://www.snappysoftware.com/

or the Free version from BVRP:
http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp

or a full BVRP Classic Phone Tools 9: $29.90
http://www.shop.avanquest.com/usa/pr...S_CPT_homepage

I’ve used all of these. Snappy fax screen look a bit crude but the product
actually is fairly feature rich and works fine. BVRP also works fine,
screen looks a little better. Other than that, there are minor differences
in performance between the two.

I can answer to what MS's motivation was to not include this.
