Had similar problems with my testbox, hardware issues. As it was a
clean install I put a base copy of XP in first then all the hardware
drivers for XP, then did an upgrade install of Vista over it. Worked
fine. My problem I think was using a ex HP Box Western Digital SATA
drive which I have had problems with before, it just happened to be
spare so I used it for Vista.
Try that approach, might work. Also burn another DVD at 2 x speed and
do not touch the PC while its burning a DVD.
