Windows Vista - Big Mistake

I bought a new Gateway Laptop with Vista Home Premium already loaded. If I
had a choice, I would never have Vista on this computer and if there was
anyway to get it off and back to Windows XP Home Addition, I would if it
didn't cost me an arm and leg. I am a novice and Vista appears to be for
computer guru's. also I can't even fax from this program.

I have written to Gateway suggesting they give you a choice.

The largest school system in my state will not load Vista on our computers
and I understand why.

Any suggestions how to fax from this OS since it was included in XP.

Try Snappy Fax.. www.snappysoftware.com

What else can't you do that you could in XP?

Windows Fax and Scan is only found in the Vista Business
and Ultimate editions, not in Vista Home Premium.
Consider purchasing a dedicated fax program such as Snappy Fax:

Though Vista might still have a few bugs left...
and though you may have to use a 3rd party fax program...

Vista is certainly no more complicated to use than XP.

Other than having a few additional features that you may or may not like...
the gui looks and operates the same way as XP

Genie,

Others suggest you buy add on packages for fax, this may or may not be the
way to go.

$69 for a fax program seems like a lot. Plus relearning and installing.
Especially if you have to do this for say 3-4 programs like this.

A better route _might_ be to consider a downgrade in the OS to XP. Most
local PC stores should be selling XP Home OEM for about $100. If you have
to upgrade 2 programs @ $69 then XP downgrade may be better and less
expensive as you also get the better performance and familiarity of XP.

If you need drivers say for a sound card, you can go to the vendors site and
download/install them for free.

Your assertion that Vista is for those that must have MS-NextToy is correct.
XP is a better system for a production - business critical use. That is
also why business adoption of Vista is near zero. And it is likely business
is going to skip Vista altogether like it did with WinMe.

Really? I can right click on the desktop and get into my display
properties right away?

Nope, now you are sent to a local web page and have to read it to find
out where you can change your display props.

So with XP I get into display properties much faster on a 6 year old
computer, than I can with vista on a brand spanking new computer.

Gotta love that change for the sake of change Vista crap.

More than a few.

> Vista is certainly no more complicated to use than XP.

Depends on a few factors.

If one spends the time and customizes it. It is quite different out of the
box. If for say they were used to classic, they would need to change it
back to classic. There is also the issue that stuff seems to have moved
around quite a bit. There is a learning curve in there.

As for features, the only one I can think of is gadgets. But really not a
big deal. Glass/aero gets dry after the flash and awe wears off, which was
pretty quick for me. It is XP but has put on 500 pounds.

Yeah, Vista sucks. A sophisticated user like you should have no problem
installing XP Home Addition.

Eh? R/Click, choose Graphics Properties-Display Settings. What's hard about
that?
