Windows Vista blocking startup of my wireless adapter connection.

I just bought a new Dell computer which had Windows Vista already installed.
I've installed a NetGear Wireless adapter which communicates fine with my
Linksys router. Problem is, everytime I restart my computer Windows blocks
the startup. The message appear "Windows is not allowing this program". I
click on the message to allow it to start, but nothing happens. Not only
that, Windows automatically removes the adapter from my devices. I have to
uninstall it, restart my computer and then reinstall the drivers with the CD
that came with the NetGear adapter.

My guess would be it has something in startup (start/.../all progs./startup)
If there is a shortcut in there, I suggest rightclicking it, and setting the
option to 'run as administrator'. If the thing is set in msconfig/ startup
tab, you might create a cmd line to run as admin.

does not help the original problem, but why not download the latest drivers from netgear and keep them on the computer to make it easier to install.
might also solve the other problem.

if it is defender that is blocking it, it usually indicates the drivers are not vista compatible.

advertised to be compatible with with Vista. NetGear came closest to
working. Does anyone have a wireless adaper that is guaranteed to work with
Vista?

My HP has the Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN adapter and, after installing the
latest driver, I have had perfect support.

Problem solved. Buy the D-Link DWA-130. Draft 802.11. Intalled and working
perfectly.
