Windows Vista Business No Aero?

I just installed Windows Vista Business on a new PC and I can't get
Aero. Under "Windows Colors and Appearance" from the Personalization
Menu all it shows me is Windows Vista Basic, Windows Standard, and
Windows Classic color schemes. I'm running a 2.2 ghz PC with 2 gigs of
RAM, with a genuine edition of Windows Vista Business. Any Ideas?

Sounds like your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements to run
Aero.

Here's a link to the requirements and some Aero troubleshooting information.

IF THE WINDOWS EXPERIENCE SCORE ISN'T HIGH ENOUGH, IT WON'T APPEAR, HAVE YOU
RUN IT?
IF YOUR VIDEO CARD ISN'T UP TO SNUFF, IT WON'T WORK EITHER.

What kind of graphic adapter do you have? Did you check it against the
Windows HCL for compatibility? Have you installed the proper drivers for
your graphic card?

Make sure the video card / graphics adapter is capable of running Aero.
Make sure that you've installed or updated the video drivers. Go to start,
right click on computer, and then go to properties. What is your Windows
Experience Index? If it is less than 2.0, then the hardware is not capable
of running Aero.

Here's my idea: Aero is a pig. Not running it will improve
performance.

Yes, and if you yank your spare tire, back seats, the radio and everything
else you don't need from your car it will go faster as well. Personally I'd
prefer to have a few more horsepower and keep the accessories.

That's an invalid analogy. Those items have no measurable impact with
the HP to weight ratios in any modern vehicle. In addition, aside form
the radio, the other items impact functionality and your ability to
complete a trip safely. True, if you strip the car down like as we do
with race vehicles, the multi hundred pounds of weight you save do
have an effect - but that's a far different analogy and requires
stripping out the ability to use it as a daily driver at the same
time.

Aero, OTOH, has a noticeable, measurable impact on daily performance
of Vista and does not increase functionality at all. It's like putting
racing stripes on your car - but racing strips that cut performance
such that the next time out you notice the car is sluggish and handles
much worse.

My expensive granite counters are no more functional than the counter
surface I had before but I enjoy cooking more now. Sure, there's a price to
be paid for everything in life. I like the look of Aero and I'm willing to
pay a bit more for a beefed up computer to run it fast. I enjoy my eye
candy. I don't want to live in a fully functional, highly efficient concrete
block house.
