Windows vista could not come out from hibernation (error 0xc000041

I have encounter this problem which is everytime i hibernate my laptop and
start up again, an error occur, which is shown as error 0xc0000411 File:\
hiberfill.sys

This problem arises after i have updated my windows vista to service pack 2.
I hope someone could help me to solve this problem

Perhaps your problem is with Vista Service Pack 2 - it doesn't exist.

I have the same issue, here is a little more detail of the error message:

Your computer can't come out of hibernation
Status: 0xc0000411
Info: A fatal error occured processing the restoration data
File: \hiberfil.sys

I have SP1 on a Vista Business 64-Bit with 2GB RAM. I've contacted
Microsoft's tech support as suggested but I honestly doubt they will solve it
without saying "reformat and reinstall". Will wait and see. Don't know if
the issue was there prior to SP1 going on as I never used hibernate until
recently.

I have a dual boot to XP SP2 and XP hibernates OK so I know it can work.
I've also disabled and re-enabled hibernation and deleted the hiberfil.sys
file to no avail. Also recreated the Windows Boot Manager settings and no
effect.

I have a feeling it is going to be something to do with BIOS but its an
older board and there are no more updates since 2005. Its a desktop machine
so hibernate is not a must-have function for me, but I'd love to solve it!

My Vista partition is a 64Gb and at the end of a 250Gb hard disk instead of
the start (the rest of the drive is taken up with other partitions and thats
where the free space was at the time). I think there were hibernate issues
years ago with 32Gb FAT32 partitions, I wonder if this is a similar issue
with my NTFS partition starting past the 32GB boundary? Just a thought.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi again,

Just thought I would update you on my findings with Microsoft in case
anyone else comes accross this seemingly rare status code.

While I had lots of emails going to and fro between myself and
Microsoft, we didnt specifically solve the issue and they havent told
me what the error code means. However I did determine that it is
something to do with SP1 and my hardware.

As a test I reformatted my hard disk and installed Vista again from my
media. I then tested hibernate in this plain vanilla configuration
(ie, didnt update or install any drivers, leaving Microsoft's own
detected configuration except for turning off hibrid sleep).
Hibernate worked fine.

I then installed SP1, and it broke hibernate with the reported issue.
Uninstalled SP1 and hibernate worked again. Definitely something in
SP1 breaks it for me, but as yet I havent determined what. I have
been installing all the Windows Updates in small batches to see if it
is a released patch, but so far nothing else has broken it. Also
tried installing latest drivers etc but no effect (and it's not any
3rd party applications causing it either as it is a fresh Vista
install.

My next course of action would be to try and remove everything non-
essential from my case (like TV card etc). But I have found my
particular system is more stable and consistent with SP1 removed so I
am going to stay that way until SP2

Microsoft suggested the following course of diagnostic:

2) Install the latest drivers for your graphic/video card (maybe test
with a different card if you can, I have nVidia FX5200)
3) Clean boot by turning off startup items and non-microsoft services
in MSCONFIG
4) Test the issue with a new user account (however the system doesnt
get past the boot loader so I cant see how profile would matter)
5) Upgrade BIOS to the latest version (mine already is the latest, I
have an AOPEN AK86-L which probably wont get any more updates, its
nearly 4 years old now, so maybe there is an issue with the BIOS and
SP1)

They also gave me the following to test but I didnt test myself as I
was happy without SP1 by this time.

Suggestion 1: Configure Sleep settings in Power Options
1. Please click on the Start Button, type "Power Options" (without the
quotation marks) in the Search Bar and press ENTER to open the Power
Options.
2. On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings under
the power plan we selected.
3. On the Change settings for the plan page, click the Advanced
settings tab, expand “Multimedia settings”-> "When sharing media",
select "Allow the computer to sleep".
4. Click OK to save the settings.

Suggestion 2: Turn off Power Management on Network adapter
1. Click the Start Button, type "Device Manager" (without quotation
marks) in the Start Search bar, press enter. Click Continue if
necessary.
2. In the Device Manager. Please expand “Network adapters” by clicking
“+”. You will find your Network adapter listed below.
3. Right click Network adapter, in the right click menu, please click
Properties.
4. Please switch to Power Management tab.
5. Uncheck the checkbox of “Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power.”

Suggestion 3: Check Mouse Power Management
1. Click the Start Button, type "Device Manager" (without quotation
marks) in the Start Search bar, press enter. Click Continue if
necessary.
2. In the Device Manager. Please expand “Mice and other pointing
devices” by clicking “+”. You will find your Mouse listed below.
3. Right click your Mouse, in the right click menu, please click
Properties.
4. Please switch to Power Management tab.
5. Make sure the checkbox of “Allow this device to wake the computer.”
is checked.

While I never got a real answer, I hope this info helps someone.

well-written.

My issue is that I'm running Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2 (regardless
of what others say about it not being available yet; I'm pulling this
info straight from my computer/properties tab; apparently it's been
released since May).

The error message I suddenly started receiving for the past few days is
exactly what you described in your post:

ability to use the hibernate feature:

The message you are replying to was written in October last year. At that time,
service pack 2 had not been released.
