Hi
I am using my new Windows Vista without any problem for the past 3 months.
From yesterday onwards my desktop, start menu and taskbar has compleatly
dissapeared. When windows starts my documents window automatically opens on a
black background. I can move my mouse in to this black areas but no effect by
clicking, left & right. My PC working without any problem. I am able to go to
specific programs by browsing through the opened window and all programs are
working properly. In the control panel taskbar and sidebar button are not
responding.
What can I do? I have tried everything. Please help.

The first thing I'd try doing would be to use System Restore to revert to
before it started happening.

From the sound of it you'll need to bring up the Task Manager
(CTRL+ALT+DEL), click Task Manager, then go to File > Run type rstrui.exe
and press enter.

I have tried system restore two times. It works properly and say that
restore was success but the problem of dissapeared desktop, start menu &
Taskbar remains. Since my PC is working perfectly I feel I might have changed
some settings. Is here a setting by which the desktop vanishes in Vista? Or
can it be a Virus attack?

I have met another person with same problem in another discussion group. He
found out a temporary solution to it. Go to C/windows folder and click or
double click the explorer.exe file. Once you do this immediately your desktop
and taskbar comes back as if nothing happened. But when you start next time
the same problem comes back and you have to do the same thing again.
Does anybody have a solution?

Honestly, it half sounds like your in a reduced functionality mode or
have a corrupt user account.

I'd try starting explorer to get your desktop back. I'd try starting
services via:

Start > Start Search > Services

I'd then look for the following two services:

Software Licensing (Should be set to Automatic + Started. If not you
can double click on it to change settings)

SL UI Notify (Should be set to 'Manual' and possibly started or
stopped'). You could try setting this one to 'Automatic + started'. If
your windows copy has somehow deactivated, it should create a
notification popup telling you so.

I'd then double check my activation status in my System Properties:

Start > Right click on Computer > choose properties > wait for System
Properties to load > Look at the bottom of the page under Windows
Activation section > Make sure it says Windows is Activated and does not
say 'This copy of Windows is not genuine'.

If its not activated or not genuine, do phone activation.

If both those are set, I'd try doing a system file check. A built-in
windows utility that checks for system file corruption (as there's
something fishy). To do so:

Start > Start Search > cmd > Right click on cmd under programs > Run as
administrator > type sfc /scannow > Hit Enter on your keyboard > Wait
about 5 minutes for it to finish > Exit > Restart

Second to last, I'd go to your User Accounts control panel, create a
new user account and see what happens there. If it still happens there,
I'd run a Spyware/Virus scan. 'Windows Live OneCare'
(http://safety.live.com) is a place where you could do it from.

Thank you Mr.WBurchnall
My problem was solved. It seems it is a trojen infection. Windows live scan
detected some problems and a trojan with high risk rating. i remember
clicking that file just before the problem started.
thank you
