I restarted my laptop because windows was taking to long to close, the next
time I tried to strart my laptop, windows did not come up, instead of that a
masage saying somthing like windows had a problem with a file and it will
need to run the recovery somthing, wich windows did automatically, after that
when the laptop restarted, windows asked me for a new serial number, the
problem is that I do not even have the original number, I bought the laptop
from Office Max in Mexico City end with the papers I got ther is no serial
for windows I was preinstaled.

Please somebudy help me.

1st) Log on
2nd) choose "run computer with REDUCED functionality- this will open an internet browser
3rd) click on FILE on the icons above
4th) click on "Open file"
5ht) open COMPUTER>WINDOWS>SYSTEM32
6th) Once you get to system 32, Scroll down to the filename "cmd"
7th) right-click on it then Run it As Administrator
8th) minimize your browser then you shoul see a "black window" where you need to type something
9th) Now this is the most important: type: slmgr.vbs -rearm
10th) if successful, a message would appear saying the operation is successful
11th) restart your Computer
12th) Log on: then voila- PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

The problem is thar windows vista do not let me pass, it is asking me for a
new licence number, it says that there was a change on my licence and I have
to retype it, it says that I can find the number on the box label, but as I
said I bought the lap top with the vista preinstaled.

Ther is an option that let me run the internet explored, I tried to run the
cmd with it, but it opens a new window and then the window just close, I
tried to open the cmd that way several times but with the same result.

Probably I am doing somethin wrong.....

Hi Gescandon,

This will show you how to get out of Reduced Functionality Mode. After
you are out, see if you can activate Vista then.

Isn't there a way to run a program against the registry
to read the current key ID number and then entering
it so the computer would startup?

later.....

Hi Charles,

There is, but it I do not believe re-entering the product key number in
this case will help since it thinks the key is already in use. You would
have to reset (rearm) it, using the method above, for Vista to accept
the product key number again.

Hi,

If you bought a laptop preloaded with Vista, the Product Key should be on a
sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
