Hi,

I just bought the Windows Vista Home Premium (upgrade) and when I got
it home it says FOR ACADEMIC USE ONLY. I asked in the shop if it was
the academic version as it was $179AUD but they said no.

I haven't unwrapped it yet. Is this version exactly the same as the
standard Windows Vista Home Premium or does it lack features or have
an expiry or does it even require a student id number or something?
(I'm not a student)

Thanks in advance,

Richy

You better enroll in class pretty soon because if Microsoft finds out you
are using the Academic version without being a student, they will come and
take away your Birthday!

No, all kidding aside, the only difference is the pricing on the academic
version. Everything else is the same.

I am not sure, but I am a student and got Vista business edition for free
from Microsoft. It said in the licence agreement that "When you are no longer
a registered student in a department that is a member of the MSDN Academic
Alliance, you may no longer receive updates for your personal use computer.
However, you may continue to use previously installed software on your
computer".

I suggest you may check with Microsoft because using academic version or I
think even selling acadamic version to someone who is not a student is...
maybe illegal.

these are only license issues, it has nothing to do with the feature sets.

"for academic use only" i would bet, you are only allowed to use it for
school, university,to do your learning stuff with it, but no private
amusements or productive work.
