No problems apparent while loading. After loading I got the black screen
blinking cursor. Viewed several posts on the subject and tried several
recommendations. Tried lower resolution log on, no luck. Attempted Startup
Repair. Got startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically
message. Viewed problem details and saw Problem signature 06:
FailureDuringSetup. Viewed diagnostic and repair details and saw Root cause
found: Failure while setup is in progress. All other tests completed
sucessfully. Attempted system restore but got message saying there where no
restore points on computer's system disk. Attempted reinstall from DVD, but
now will not accept product key. Is there anything I can do short of
reimaging and attempt to reinstall Vista?

Thanks Bill

What kind of computer are you upgrading? Is it new? Specs? Did you run
the upgrade advisor? (although it's not 100% correct)

It is always better to do a fresh install than an upgrade on any computer.

If you are upgrading/clean install, as noted, disable any external or USB
based devices you might have attached to the computer. Also, disable any
Security software before launching setup and ensure that you meet the
minimum system requirements for Windows Vista.

Turn Off Serial Key Devices: Windows Vista does not support Serial Key
devices. If you are upgrading and you currently use Serial Keys with an
alternative input device, you must turn off Serial Keys and install another
input option before the upgrade. To turn off Serial Keys in Windows XP, open
Accessibility Options in Control Panel. For more information, go to the
Microsoft Accessibility website (http://www.microsoft.com/enable).

You can try booting into safe mode to see if it will finish setup.

Wow this is strange coming from the Upgrade Advisor. It said to install
Ubuntu Linux. I was surprised it was not Red Hat.

You need to stop drinking oem ink. It's colored your judgment. You think
