I'll bet it's a really bad case of PEBKAC.

Vista is a highly complicated and seriously bloated operating system. It's
obvious there is something wrong with either your PC or the installation
disk. May I suggest you take it to a Microsoft professional and get them to
install it for you.

The most common cause of crashes is non-compliant drivers.
Second most common is infection by various malware products.
Third would be faulty or failing hardware.
Fourth would be software issues, meaing programs that are not intended for
use in Vista.

Why is yours crashing? I don't know as you've given no information that
gives any clues to the problem. Vista itself is very stable, I have several
installations running 24/7 since release that have never crashed (unless I
intended to force them to in order to duplicate a customer issue).

Don't use the parental controls so I can't help you with them. For me the
best parental controls are accomplished by actually being a parent and not
relying on a machine to do it.

then....
your saying gives an implication:
M$ is putting some junk (the parental control function) into the OS...

Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair.

It's quite similar to PICNIC: Problem In Chair Not In Computer.

My Vista doesn't crash, and I have only installed it the one time..

Parental controls are a deterrent only. You should take responsibility for
the control of your kids, not pass it on to others..

Windows Vista certainly does *not* love to crash at all. In fact, it
almost never does.

Nor does it ever have to be reinstalled.

I run Vista on two machines that I own and I also help people using
Vista on several other machines. None of these machines has
experienced problems anything like yours. One of my two Vista machines
has been running Vista since RTM in November of 2006, and neither of
my machines has *ever* crashed, nor has Vista ever been reinstalled on
either one.

If your experience is different from mine, either you are regularly
doing something very much wrong, or you are continually allowing
yourself to get infected with malware.
