Windows Vista SP1 (KB936330) : Error Code 80070017

I am using the Windows Vista Home Premium OS on my new HP Laptop. Up until
now, all the "Important" updates have installed successfully through Windows
Update. Now, however, I have had 10 failed attempts at installing the recent
Service Pack [Windows Vista SP1 - KB936330] in the last 3 days. As suggested
in some of the MS Online Help sites, I cleaned up all temporary files, and on
one occasion turned off Windows Defender (I was too chicken to disable my
Norton Security as well) - but they still did not resolve the problem. Each
fail has come up with the Error Code 80070017. I would guess that I'm not the
only one experiencing this current problem, so is there an easy solution to
it? (BTW the emphasis there is on the word "easy"!)

I have the infamous 80070017 error code as well. I've tried everything in
the post below. Nothing works. Even the reliability update for Vista is not
reliable. Sheesh!
