I have receieved a Windows update to install Windows Vista SP1 RC1-Build
6001.17128 (x86) but I keep getting an error and it reverts back but the
windows update keeps saying I need it.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate 1 - Build 6001.17128 (x86)

Installation date: ‎1/‎16/‎2008 4:35 AM

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80041026

Update type: Important

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta is an update to Windows Vista that
addresses key feedback from our customers. Windows Vista SP1 Beta addresses
specific reliability and performance issues, supports new types of hardware
and adds support for several emerging standards. After you install this
item, you may have to restart your computer.

More information:

Help and Support:

I have click on all the links and still can't find a solution. and when I
search for the error code it says it never heard of it? On my update history
the last updates prior to this were KB936824, KB938371-version 1.025,
KB937287-build 6001.17128 (x86) then the next day Windows Vista Service Pack
1 Release Candidate 1-Build 6001.17128 (x86) Failed

Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

My solution would be to wait until the SP1 finished version is released.
Unless, that is,
you are part of the evaluation team. In that case, why are you posting
here?

From what little I saw on the internet, this error number seems to be unique
to that
piece of Beta software.

just hide it and ignore it!

Turn off automatic updates. Just get a notification.
Hide it. There is no way on earth that I will install beta software on my
computer, and that is what a release candidate really is.

Airwolf, check your AU settings - you may have checked the option to be
offered "Beta" software.

Not on Vista at moment - from memory - on the side you should see something
like "Change Settings".

It's somewhere in there, down the bottom I think.

I have the identical problem with SP1RC1 except that after failing to install
I dicovered the shadow drive and all it contains had vanished and now I have
no way of restoring files. I find that a bit weird. Advice is do not install
Beta software on your main drives even if you are being prompted to do so.
