I have Vista and am running internet explorer 7 on one computer and it seems
to freeze up alot on me when I'm using the internet. I have another computer
still running IE6 and Windows XP and I have no problems. Can someone give me
some ideas on what I can do to help this?

Thanks!!

Hi Lisa,

Frequently that happens if there is a plugin loading with IE that is causing
issues. You can confirm this by loading IE without addons by clicking start
and typing "internet exploerer" into the search line. One of the menu
options will be to load it without addons. I suspect you will find that
running in this fashion eliminates the problems.

To permanently fix it, go to Tools/Manage Addons/Enable or Disable and
disable those that load with IE that are not supplied by Microsoft or other
major software distributors (like Adobe's pdf plugin). If it still doesn't
work correctly, then start disabling those as well until the problem stops.

Hi Lisa,

Just a second vote in favour of checking the IE plug-ins; I agree with
Rick's advice and think this is the best thing for you to to check.

An additional step which I've often found useful is to clear out your
Temporary Internet File cache. IE stores recently used data in a hidden
directory. If the number of files here gets very big it can slow down IE
or make it hang.

To clear the Temporary Internet File cache, go to the Tools menu in IE,
choose Internet Options and under the General Options tab, press the
Delete button under "Browsing history". The "Delete Browsing History"
panel will appear. Press the first button, "Delete files". Don't press
any of the other buttons, unless you really want to - that will delete
useful information like cookies and passwords. Then hit Close, to
dismiss the panel.

Disabling rogue plug-ins, and clearing the Internet cache, will solve
most simple performance and stability problems in IE.

Hope this helps!

Andrew

Many folks elect to use Firefox instead.

Lisa

IE7 and IE8 run better when there are no 3rd party toolbars installed.
Uninstall any of these via Programs and Features in Control Panel

Yet Micro$lut has their own "Live" tool bar. Is this just more evidence
that Micro$lut holds their paying customers in total disdain?

Maybe some don't, but when IE7 was first released, 3rd party toolbars did it
no good at all. They don't work for me either..
