I remember that, when Ctrl-Alt-Delete was pressed on a Windows 9x machine,
the "Close Program" dialog box would open up with the list of running, and
one would then choose what processes they wished to terminate. With this
"Close Program" dialog box, somebody published a list of processes that were
safe and unsafe to terminate. Can anyone here tell me where I could find
such a list with the Windows Vista Task Manager?

I think Blackviper has a list of processes/services you can safely disable:
