ok guys I have to put this out there and see if anyone has had the same
problem and if they fixed it. I have vista ultimate and everything was fine
untill this latest patch. Now I keep getting this error message that says
hard drive failure please back up hard drives before you lose you
information. I have scan disk, defrag, ran nortons, spysweeper and disk clean
up till I am blue in the face. Anyone else have this problem? How can I fix
it without having to back up and reinstall vista.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore>To before the update

Or, uninstall the problem update.
And change you Auto update to notify you when updates are available.
And when it does, right-click on the problem one which it will want to
reinstall>hide it!

Ok I will try that. I am also having a problem with my internet and ultimate
being very slow. I have read that alot of people are having problems with it
as well but am not finding a resolve to that problem either. Anyone know how
I can fix this little problem?

Thanks so much mick!!

Hi,

Which patch are you referring to?
My guess is and I'll bet a good guess that it's not the patch in question,
but I see you mentioned Norton on your system and there lies the problem.
Norton/Symantec is the largest just over MacAfee piece of junkware program
there is. If you do not want to uninstall it, at least run Msconfig and for
troubling shooting purposes only, uncheck everything you can find relating
to Norton and restart your system. See if that clears up your error message.

I altso had alike trouble as wel as other troubles, My internal backup
harddisk
on the PATA crashed. I did what Mick Murphy suggests for a while ago.
For the moment apparently no problems -unless, looking at EventLogs, and
this really scares me. Vista keeps producing lots of errorsLogs. And I
doesn't understand the terminology in which these errors are described.
Spent lot of time downloading -and installed new drivers and bios.
Yet, older programs doesn't run. When on the MSDN looking for
something useable knowledge, a Microsoft messageBox sometimes
pops up with labels and ask, please fill out your name, address, and
telephone number. If you dont want press Cancel they says.
-In other contexts Microsoft is talking about privacy!.
Well, lots of problems but, still going on with Microsoft.
But, they didn't deliver a proper work!.
A professional monitoring -and analysing software tool that
can tell the general user in understandable terms whats going on
and come up with solutions to the problems, that is needed
Operating systems grown that huge not even Microsofts own
people can cope with it.

Senn, to install older Programs, right-click on their setup.exe>Select
Properties>Compatibility> and install them in XP SP2 mode, or whatever

Thanks Mick for replying,
I've tryed already the Compatibility tab in/and with all it's aspects
-disabling desktop composition and so.
Still pops up with the SmartHeap Library Form, telling me
of Mem_Bad_Pointer from the SmartHeap error handler.
Well, this is rather something for a Cprogrammers board
to understand -not for me!
My thread posted to this problem is a bit down here
subject: Error from SmartHeap Library.
To solve this problem I apparently am going to have
one more machine with one more new XP operating
system installed with only SP1, and defer any update
on that machine. Not anough, some programs require
SP2 be installed. Then having one more machine for
these.

Try installing your older program(s) outside of the program files directory.

You can browse MSDN websites but you cannot post there without giving a
VALID email address. It is managed forum. they also ask you for your user
profile but it is not necessary.

My best suggestion to you if you want to use it is to set up windows live
email (hotmail) account. The when you give them your email address for
user's feedback you will be easily ID'ed by MS.
