On Jan 10, My PC was updated by Microsoft's automatic updates. Since the
auto update, my pc hangs after loading CRCDrive.sys. All I get is continious
scrolling. Any Idea what is going on? This PC was stable before this
update.

I had a problem very similar to your one.

When booting normally, Windows would hang on the screen with the green
scrolling bar. When booting with the option to see the loading of
drivers, the last one displayed was CRCDrive.sys. The system booted in
safe mode. Neither "Last known good" nor System restore fixed the
problem.

I was blaming the last piece of software I installed, a driver for my
Samsung monitor, but it turned out I was completely off the mark.

Instead, I finally discovered that the problem is due to the network
card initialization, but only shows up under certain conditions.

First of all, if I disconnect the PC from the electrical power, it
boots succesfully. However, it's not enough to turn it off, I have to
disconnect it from the mains power altoghether.

Then, as long as I don't connect a network cable into the ethernet
port, I can reboot or shut down/start succesfully.

If I plug a network cable with the machine turned off, I can still boot
succesfully once. However, subsequent boots hang, even if I turn the
machine off and even if I unplug the network cable. The only way to
recover the situation is to disconnect the PC from the mains power.

I guess the network adapter is partly powered even when the PC is off,
to enable wake on lan, hence the need to unplug the power cable.

I don't have any Windows update installed: the system is the same as it
was when I installed it from the original DVD.

Below you'll find a summary of my configuration.

Hope this helps.

PC: Notebook Asus F3SV
Network adapter: Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/100Base-T
Controller
Windows: Vista Ultimate 64 bit

It is a fascinating story. I took a note of it. Very helpful.
