Windows Vista Ultimate version cannot update with error 8024A000

I have recently had no problem with Windows Update when accessing Microsoft
Update directly. I am not using WSUS or going through an ISA server. I can
otherwise access the internet and email works fine so it doesn't seem to be a
connectivity problem.

The error when attempting to access Windows Update is 8024A000. It started
when I got a notice that Defender was complaining it could not or did not
have an up to date update.

I then clicked on Windows Update and the screen says that Windows could not
search for new updates with error 8024A000.

Any help is greatly apreciated.

In my first sentence it should read that until recently I've had no
problems. Tonight I did.
