I've bought an ASUS laptop with the vista already installed. Last night I was
updating software (windows update). After that it was requested to restart
the computer. It went bananas. It simply didn´t turn on.

I had to reinstall (from the disk) to the partition of vista.

Now, I've tried to update and I'm getting the same error over and over again
(80073712), and it doesn't update the software.

Can you help me?
Thank you.

free Windows Update support incident request:

<https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527>

Please report back so it may assist others who have the same problem as you.

I did that, and I still am waiting for a reply. Today I went there again and
they asked me 60 € for an online help.

This is great. Microsoft software has a problem and I have to pay. Is this
the Vista extra value?

Asus is *required* to support Vista for what is known as an OEM edition
of Vista during whatever warranty period they offer.

Microsoft offers Home Users no-charge support for issues with Security
Updates.

Check any Security Bulletin or Security related KB article to confirm
this, if you wish. For instance, the first Security update of 2008 shows
this on the Sec Bulletin or KB article pages:
