Windows Vista update / msdelta.dll problem

For some reason, the Windows Modules Installer (TrustedInstaller.exe) crashes
on my home built PC. According to Problem Reports, the issue is with
msdelta.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386.
msdelta.dll is a protected system file and the only thing that can modify it
is TrustedInstaller.exe, which crashes when starting up!
Tried running SFC as administrator, got:

Hashes for file member
\SystemRoot\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-deltacompressionengine_#####_6.0.6000.16386_none_3 df5a61c88d408ee\msdelta.dll
do not match actual file [l:22{11}]"msdelta.dll"

and

Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"msdelta.dll" of
Microsoft-Windows-DeltaCompressionEngine, Version = 6.0.6000.16386, pA =
PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS,
PublicKeyToken = {#####}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral
in the store, hash mismatch

I think a HD wipe and reinstall is necessary, unless someone else knows

Oddly enough I didn't post this in the XP forum boards - this forum was
auto-direct via the Vista help pages. According to the forum structure I can
see in front of me its Microsoft Discussion Groups/English/Windows/Windows
Update.

The Windows Update board is for all versions of Windows, not just XP.
