I have Windows Vista and I have the updates set to automatic but it won't
download the important updates, only the less important ones. Whenever I go
to download them it says they are downloading but the percentage stays at 0%
and I can't get an error code because the Installing Updates message never
goes.

Can anyone help?

My computer continues to "fail" while trying to post Windows updates. I am
running Vista. I have about sixty updates that haven't loaded and they try
every evening.

BTW the Vista Premium is on my HP laptop and Update has not updated since
12/9/2008 and when I click Check for Updates it says it's up to date. So what
is the trick to download Security update KB960714 ?

Open Windows Update and review your history.

Locate the update/s that have failed to install (you can view further
information about the failed update/s by double-clicking the update )

If the information reveals 800f0826 move onto the next one until you get the
update that displays a different error code to 800f0826.

Once you have located the update that has failed and caused the problem,
then that needs to be fixed before you can install the other updates.

had the problem also with my gateway after i downloaded the newest update date 12/10.but i found my fix by having another laptop that is a acer and it didn't affected it at all. i went to regedit first and then find and typed in wuauserv found it had two setting one was

hkey_local_machine\system\controlset001\services\w uauserv and hkey_local_machine\system\controlset002\services\w uauserv

i notice on my acer laptop it didn't have hkey_local_machine\system\controlset002\services\w uauserv in the regsister. but i did notice that

hkey_local_machine\system\controlset001\services\w uauserv in the gateway had Windows

Update as the display name but on the acer it had

@%systemroot%\system32\wuaueng.dll,-105 as the display name so i change it in the gateway. i thought that the

hkey_local_machine\system\controlset002\services\w uauserv was hiccup in the update.

so i change the display name and restart the computer and guess what the update window popped up right and i got to install the critical updtae for ie7. hope this works for other
