Is there a better alternative to Windows Vista's Search component? I confess
I don't care for it - it is not even as good as Windows XP's was, in my
opinion. I find it confusing in certain aspects, and am frankly starting to
avoid using it. But I without doubt require the necessity of a "replacement
program". Can anyone out there direct me to something better? Thanks in
advance.

on following programmes to serach my documents and emails, pictures etc-
Both are free and ranked among the best in desktop serach engines

Copernic desktop search

Google desktop search

Copernic and Yahoo's desktop search programs are supposed to be the best
ones according to PCPro, which is the only decent computer magazine in the
UK IMO.

The group test was done over a year ago though, but I doubt any of them have
changed that much. I don't think Yahoo works with network drives, so if you
need that, use Copernic instead.

I have been using Agent Ransack at work (under XP). I have not tried
it at home (under Vista) yet, but the first time I need to search for
text in a file I will be going that route.

Try turning on Natural Language searching as described
here: http://mike.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!
FBABF8E542F5D5DB!7837.entry

You can then enter searches like "Documents containing
Margaret Smith" and find all documents with Margaret
Smith in the document.
