Windows wont load after Windows Update Reboot

Hello,

I got my computer up and running and was going through the Windows updates
just fine. I got to these last six and when I rebooted Windows shows the
initial loading Windows graphic and then the computer reboots. I have tried
Safe Mode and loading last known good configuration but nothing works.

Please help me get my computer back. Thanks.

Hi Adrian,

I have question for you. In the old times I used to have illlegal version of
Windows XP version (i'm talking about the time before there was WGA and you
could get away with that). There were 2 times that I try-ed to update my
machine but both times after I rebooted my machine stayed in a reboot cycle.
It would look like Windows was logging on but right I saw the gui my pc
rebooted and kept rebooting. The only solution I saw at that time was to
reïnstall Windows XP. So My question for you is do you have a illegal version
of Windows XP. If so get your self a authentic version of Windows XP. That
will solve your problems. If you have a legal version of Windows XP follow
the steps described below.

Go in Safe Mode and after your system has loaded properly, open Event
viewer. Check in "System" and Application and look for errors. Mostly the are
logged in here and are given a ID. Maybe you can find a solution by searching
the internet for that ID. What you could also do is try to uninstall the
updates from Windows Updates. Go to "Add or remove software" and check the
show updates. After that try to uninstall the updates, adleast if they were
not removed after you preformed the system restore.
Please give me some feedback if your problem was solved.

I do have a legit copy of windows. Good that you mentioned that because
that could have been my problem.

As I noted in my original post I could not get anything to work, not even
safe mode.

But on your advice I did try and go into safe mode again but this time I
told it not to restart on failure. I then got to see the BSOD and I got the
name of the file that it was crashing on... "Si3531.sys"

So I then loaded my HD on another PC and renamed this file located in the
%windir%\System32\Drivers directory to ".old". I then tried to boot from the
HD again and got a new BSOD with a new file name...."SiRemFil.sys".

Did the same thing again and my computer came back to life.

After some research I found out that these files belonged to the Silicon
Image SiI 3531 SATA Controller Windows hardware update.

So if someone does load this HW update from windows and their Windows no
longer loads they should try and do what I did.

*STRONGLY* suggest that one does not update drivers via AU nor the
update sites, Adrian. Go to the manufacturer's web site for those.
As you can attest to the results of obtaining drivers via AU, WU | MU,
suggest that you set Automatic Updates to " Download updates for me but
let me choose when to install them "
Then review the updates and Hide any driver updates.
