I am needing to download Windows XP 2 update but it will take me 4.5 hours.
Is there any disc based software available instea of sitting on the dial up
phone line for so long?

Once you could order the CD from MS but it's no longer available.
Have a look at some computer magazines - might be included in their CDs
attached to the magazine.
Perhaps borrow it from a friend.

WinXP SP2 on CD may still be available via MS Order Desk:

In the United States, contact the Microsoft Order Desk at the following
phone number:

(800) 360-7561, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Pacific
Time

In Canada, contact the Canadian Microsoft Order Desk at the following phone
number:

(800) 933-4750, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Pacific
