I am with all the rest of you people in telling Microsoft to get lost--they
are not the only game in town and when the distribute updates because someone
else has found more security holes in there programs they should be held to a
standard and made to update everyones computers with a fail proof product,
instead they put out a quick fix and it is only full of more problems,,,If
they were car dealers they would be made to take the product back and fix it
properly, since no-one will answer all our questions and no answers can be
found anywhere on there websites I suggest you all remove SP2 and go back to
reliable products that you were using before they published this quick fix.
I am goiung back to my Symantec firewall and stuff SP2 somewhere else!!!!!!

You problem is solved. Thank you for sharing.

For everyone else - please post your concerns with XP here and see if your
problems can be answered before taking the easy way out.

"fail proof". Pretty clear you don't understand computers much, or
cars. Maybe that's your problem with the update.

Why does he need to understand cars or OS to this matter? He is just a
"user". Think about the meaning of the word. He is not a designer or
developer. Not everybody in this world is a nerd. The good car should just
drive without any need for opening the bonnet or recalls to the dealer and
all that required from the user is to know how to steer, break and
accelerate. The good OS has to be transparent to the user. At the end of
the day it is a tool. People buy computers to learn and use applications,
not to spend their time fiddling with the OS.

Incorrect.. They must at least take it to someone for normal maintenance or
learn to maintain it themselves. Same with their home appliances and other
mechanical/complex devices.

Agreed. But again - general maintenance is the responsibility of the
end-user - whether they pay someone else to do it or learn to do it
themselves. I think people that ask questions here are trying to learn to
do it themselves or they would have just paid someone to fix it for them and
you would have never seen a post from them.

Vals;
That would be nice but largely because of virus, spyware and other
malware creators it is not that simple.
People need to know more than just turn it on and go.
Even with an automobile they should know enough to raise the hood for
various checks.

A computer is more complex than an automobile.
There are tools that must be regularly used if the computer can be
expected to perform properly.
