Windows XP Critical Updates - Failed to install

I can not get the following critical updates to install.
KB885836 KB885835 KB88583339 Microsoft .Net 1.1 Service Pack1

It just fails - no errors that I have seen.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?

running XP Pro - SP2

Hi

From Start/Run run this exact command:

notepad %windir%\windowsupdate.log

See if you can find any clues and/or error massages/numbers there and
post e.g. the last 30 lines of that log here.
