I tried to do an update and this popped up [Error number: 0x80072EE4]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
I called microsoft and they could not help. they said to e-mail.tech support
which cast $35.00. any help is greatful.

this worked for one user:
Go to Tools->Internet Option->Advanced tab Scroll down to security Section
and unselected the following option
"Check for publisher's certificate revocation"
"Check for server certificate revocation"

Windows Update Troubleshooter
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Windows Update scan feature reaches 100%, and then displays "There are no
updates available at this
time" message. The log file contains error 0x800c0008 or 0x80072EE4.
Windows 2000 & Windows XP

Another thing you can try:-

Register the following system files
Click Start > Run
Type: net.exe stop wuauserv
Press OK
Repeat the above steps for the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Try the WU site again.

When I tried to go to the "Advanced" tab, I found a completely blank page???
I went to "Tools", "Internet Options", and then "Advanced". There are NO
settings
displayed on my screen, and when I press "Restore Defaults" notihing happens.
(I also tried all the other things listed below.)
Any ideas, anybody?

I've tried a number of posts I've seen to no avail. I've tried to register
the dlls mentioned here, I've checked off the publisher options, I've turned
the firewalls off (XP and Trend Micro) and I've added WU to trusted sites.

Still no luck!

I have tried a new browser. In this case, I am using MSN Explorer and I
appear to be successfully going through the update process. I will revert to
IE once the updates are completed. I don't know if any other browser
(Netscape etc.) would work as well!
