windows XP home - Failed update 0x80070005

Since reformating my pc I have had no luck getting windows update to work
every time I try and update I get the error 0x80070005

Ive changed the user classes to allow all in the
hkey-local machine software microsoft window update
but no luck there
resored all internet options to default levels
turned off all firewalls anti virus etc , and still no luck

any help would be appreaciated
