How do I update an XP Home SP1 machine that has no internet connection andas
far as I can tell never will. I am using my own computer to try and find out
how I can update my office computer at work. I especially need the time
change update, but I am willing to install all of the other updates even
though most of the security risks are negated by not having internet access.
The only contact with the "outside world" is via my thumb drive and I work
pretty hard at keeping my machine clean so that exposure is minimal. Please
give me a direction to go.

Thanks
Ray

Windows XP Service Pack 2 - download (for single PCs also)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

SP2 CD can be ordered online.

For updates after SP2 -

Security updates are available on ISO-9660 CD image files from the Microsoft Download
Center
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913086

You can also download individual updates from the Catalog and save to be installed later.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you want, Click
the "Go To Download Basket" link. Type in or browse to the location where you want the
updates saved to and then Click the "Download Now" button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD.

For security and other patches released for a given month :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms##-***.mspx
Replace ## with the two-digit year
Replace *** with the three character month abbreviation

Providing there are releases for that month, you will see the list of "critical"
"important" patches for that month
Check on the 2nd Tuesday of each month - later in the day.

For just the current listing:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx

And finally - when you install SP2 you'll need to slipstream it with the original WinXP
CD.
