I'd recommend you start by doing a full system cleanup. The steps in

good tips/reminders about that. That article doesn't mention it, but look
for a Hidden folder named WUTemp and delete it and all contents.
When done with the above, click Start/Run and enter: net stop wuauserv
(you'll see a DOS window open then close)
Next use Explorer and open the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. Delete
the Datastore and Download folders.
Then from the Run line type: net start wuauserv (you'll see a brief DOS
window again)
Then give SP2 install another try. BTW, if you were installing manually
from a downloaded file, I would avoid that one for right now as the download
may be corrupt or incomplete (the 0X80070017 error indicates a CRC problem).
Either install SP2 via Windows Update directly, download a totally new SP2,
or order the CD and wait for that.
