How was it (the "legit version" of Windows XP SP2) bought?

Where did the new motherboard come from? This is especially important if
the computer was originally bought from a large vendor (Dell, IBM, HP,
Gateway, etc) pre-assembled and the OS (the "legit version" of Windows XP
SP2) came with said computer.

What type of Windows XP is it? (Professional, Home, Media Center, etc.. AS
WELL AS Retail, Upgrade, OEM, Volume License, etc..)

Are you asking from a *technical* or *end-user license agreement*
standpoint?

Why are you asking? (What put the doubt in your mind?)

Whoops - answered *one* of the questions (half of it anyway) by re-reading
the subject line.
"Windows XP Home Edition" is what i assume you mean in your subject line as
what you have installed.

A similar question was recently asked in the Windows Update group, and all
the
responses seem to indicate that purchasing a new OEM version of XP will NOT
necessary.

and especially read the post by Bruce Chambers.
